How to Stop a Chair From Sliding to a carpeting

Seats that “walk” across the rug are annoying and may be dangerous. Add or subtract from the legs or rockers to keep the chair from sliding out from under you when you stand or sit. Flip the chair on its side or upside-down and assess the the base in which the chair ties with the carpeting. Cut a piece of non-skid rubber mat to get every touch and hot-glue the mat to the bottom of the chair. Allow the adhesive to harden before righting the chair and using it. Or try molded vinyl furniture grippers that slip over the bottom of chair legs and create a rough layer between chair and carpet, discontinuing that runaway chair in its paths. Leg coasters and caster cups are trays with non-skid seams which hold chair legs stable on carpeting or hardwood floors.

Rock on

A rocking chair that drifts is likely to wind up parked in the attic. Flip the chair over and assess the rockers to see whether they are irregular. In that case, plane the larger rocker to match the flatter or smaller one, a move that will prevent side creep. You may also try the squishy round clear plastic dots that self-adhere to the rear of hanging artwork to safeguard the wall. Start with one dot on each rocker bottom at the extreme of the backward tilt and one at the farthest comfortable point of forward tilt. Add one or two more mid-rocker if you’re still hiking over the rug.
