How to Put a Belt on a Dixon ZTR 427 Mower

Once you have removed the belt in the Dixon ZTR 427 mower, then you can be left scratching your head in case you did not snap a picture of the routing pattern of the one. The ZTR 427 was manufactured in the 1980s with a mower drive belt that moves power in the rear-mounted engine to the mower and a serpentine belt on the deck that drives the blades. When installing a belt to the mower, then park it on a level area and just work on it with the engine turned off and the key removed.

Serpentine Blade Drive Belt

Lower the mower deck to its lowest position.

Route the serpentine blade drive belt (part number 6109) onto the V-pulleys situated on the mower deck. One double pulley is situated in the front of the deck close to the center. The other two pulleys can be found near each side of the deck. Route the belt around the outside — the opposite toward the outer edge of the mower deck of every pulley. For the double pulley close to the front of the deck, route the belt around the lower pulley (part number 6058) just. If pulleys are fitted with belt guards, work the belt in between the pulley and guard.

Push the idler pulley toward the center of the deck with your hand. The idler pulley (part number 6059) is the fourth pulley to the deck and can be situated close to the back of the deck. It is the only movable pulley on the deck. Wrap the belt around the face of the pulley nearest the edge of the deck. Release the idler pulley to place pressure on the belt. No adjustment is essential since the serpentine idler spring (part number 6065), situated on the idler pulley, adjusts the belt into the correct tension.

Mower Drive Belt

Install the mower drive belt (part number 6111) by routing it about the top pulley (part number 6032) about the double pulley close to the front of the mower deck.

Stretch the belt toward the back of the tractor close to the engine. Route the belt around the outside of the back most pulley.

Pull the idler pulley (part number 1687), situated just in front of the rear pulley, outward. Route the belt on to the interior of the idler pulley. Release the idler pulley. The program is self-adjusting; no manual adjustment is necessary.
