How to Store a Pea Pod from a Sweet Pea Plant

Pea pods, permitted to grow fully, will develop small across sweet peas. The peas are eliminated and used in cooking, while the forks are discarded. However, the pea pods are edible and if picked before the peas develop, are tender and sweet additions to the plate. Whether you plan on waiting for the peas or picking early for the forks, proper storage techniques have to be followed in order to take advantage of their full flavor.

Place pea pods with peas inside in a plastic zip bag following harvesting and refrigerate if you’re planning to use them within the next 3 days. Place the bag in a trendy part of the refrigerator, like the crisper drawer. If the seeds have grown to the size of peas, discard forks and only cook the broth.

Put pea pods that are relatively flat and have only formed small seeds in plastic zip bags. These pods are edible, with no of the hard fibers that develop in the forks as the seeds grow into peas. Put the bag in the refrigerator crisper for up to two weeks if you’re planning to consume them soon.

Pinch off the end of the forks and pull to remove the string that runs along the side. Boil the pods in water for 2 minutes and no more. Take the pods from the heat and drain them. After draining, then pour them into a bowl of ice cold water for another 2 minutes. Dry blanched pea pods off with a towel and set them in freezer-quality plastic zip bags. Put in the freezer to be kept fresh until use.
